Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is gearing up to campaign for the party in West Bengal for the Assembly elections. He will kick off his campaign from Malda district, which was previously a stronghold of the Congress. With the state’s shifting political landscape, the Congress is striving to reclaim its lost influence, prompting Rahul Gandhi to step in with a message of transformation.
Rahul Gandhi is set to visit Malda district after a hiatus of seven years. His election rally is scheduled to take place at the Kalambagan ground in Chanchal on April 14. Ahead of the event, top Congress leaders and police officials inspected the venue to ensure security, assess infrastructure, and oversee preparations for the anticipated public gathering.
Party officials anticipate a turnout of at least one lakh people at the rally. Rahul Gandhi shares a longstanding bond with the Gani Khan Choudhury family in Malda and is placing particular emphasis on the Chanchal and Sujapur constituencies. He is slated to support four Congress candidates during the meeting on April 14, aiming to showcase the party’s strength in four key centers of the district.
Preparations for the rally are in full swing, with ground clearance nearly complete. A temporary helipad is being constructed adjacent to the venue for Rahul Gandhi’s chopper landing, from where he is expected to proceed to the rally site by car. Malda District Congress General Secretary Indra Narayan Majumdar expressed confidence in a substantial turnout, citing widespread public interest in witnessing Rahul Gandhi and hearing his address.
