Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, also the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, visited the Shree Singh Sabha Gurdwara in Campbell Bay, Andaman and Nicobar Islands. During his visit, Gandhi offered prayers at the shrine and engaged with the local Sikh community to understand their issues. This visit is part of his broader interactions with the residents of the islands.
Gandhi shared images and videos from his visit to various locations in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on social media. Notably, his visit coincided with the final phase of polling in West Bengal. While Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi, Gandhi chose to travel to the remote island territory instead.
During his visit, Gandhi criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Centre, accusing it of planning to destroy the island’s valuable forest resources by cutting down numerous trees. He labeled this alleged plan as potentially one of the largest scams witnessed in India. Gandhi also released a video where he strongly condemned the Centre’s Great Nicobar Island development project, calling it a severe threat to the country’s natural and tribal heritage.
