In a significant move to address a longstanding issue, Minister of State for Railways V. Somanna revealed that preparations for constructing a quadruple railway line connecting Bengaluru and Tumakuru are progressing rapidly. The estimated cost of this ambitious infrastructure project exceeds Rs 6,000 crore.
Efforts to secure additional land required for the project are currently underway at a fast pace, as mentioned by MoS Somanna. The formal land acquisition process is anticipated to kick off within the next five to six months.
MoS Somanna confirmed that the detailed project report has been completed and approved by the technical committee. The next steps involve submission to the Cabinet and NITI Aayog Commission, with land acquisition expected to commence in the coming months.
Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara is keen on extending the Metro line from Bengaluru to Tumakuru, alongside the transformation of the Bengaluru-Tumakuru railway track into a four-lane corridor. The development aims to enhance operational efficiency, reduce travel time by nearly half, and boost rail connectivity in the region.
The quadruple railway line project is set to alleviate congestion on one of Karnataka’s busiest railway routes, benefiting daily commuters and stimulating regional economic activities. Tumakuru, located 68 km from Bengaluru, is poised to become a pivotal city in line with Bengaluru’s development, according to MoS Somanna.
