The Railways approved three new projects for West Bengal following the recent change in government post the Assembly polls. West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari confirmed receiving approval letters from Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for the projects. One project involves the new Jalpaiguri-Siliguri railway line, while another is for the Santragachi-Khatipura Express train connecting Kolkata with Jaipur. The third project focuses on a new railway line from Salboni to Adra Junction.
The Railway Minister also announced the start of Kolkata Metro connection work at Chingrighata near Salt Lake. This work, delayed during the previous regime, faced hurdles due to traffic restrictions. With the change in government, permissions were granted, allowing the installation of girders to begin. The Kolkata Police’s approval, after a legal battle, paved the way for the long-pending project to move forward.
The commencement of these projects signals progress in the railway infrastructure development in West Bengal under the new government. The approvals and initiation of works highlight the collaborative efforts between the state and central authorities to enhance connectivity and transportation services for the people of the region.
