The Regional Meteorological Centre in Kolkata’s Alipore has predicted rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds in several districts of South Bengal, including Kolkata, over the next few days. The impact is expected to be more pronounced in north Bengal, with heavy rain anticipated in a few districts while others may experience light to moderate rainfall. Specifically, heavy rainfall is likely until next Monday in five districts of north Bengal: Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Cooch Behar, and Alipurduar.

According to the forecast, the remaining districts will see light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by gusty winds with speeds ranging between 40 and 50 kilometres per hour. Weather officials expect these conditions to persist in north Bengal until next Wednesday. The cyclonic circulation over Bangladesh and its surrounding areas, particularly over Gangetic West Bengal, has weakened, but the associated trough of low pressure remains active, drawing moisture inland from the Bay of Bengal.

Favorable conditions for thunderstorms and rainfall are expected across both north and south Bengal due to this weather system. While south Bengal may not experience rainfall as intense as in the north, scattered showers are still expected across several districts. Starting from Sunday, rainfall intensity may increase in districts like East Burdwan, West Burdwan, Nadia, Murshidabad, Purulia, Bankura, and Birbhum, with thunderstorms and lightning likely. This advisory remains in effect until Tuesday.

Some districts may continue to experience rain on Wednesday as well. On Saturday, light rainfall was recorded in Birbhum and Murshidabad, with a chance of rain in Jhargram and West Midnapore districts. In Kolkata and its vicinity, the minimum temperature on Friday was 26.02 degrees Celsius, 3.6 degrees higher than normal, while the maximum temperature reached 33.7 degrees Celsius, just 0.1 degrees above normal.
