The recent rainfall relief in Rajasthan is set to diminish as the Meteorological Department predicts a gradual decrease in rain over the next few days. Temperatures are expected to increase by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius, leading to a new heatwave from May 9, particularly in the western regions of the state. Weather conditions in Rajasthan have shifted due to a Western Disturbance, bringing rain and strong winds to various districts in the past 24 hours.
The rainfall provided a welcome break from the intense heat, with the highest recorded rainfall of 68 mm in Shahpura (Jaipur) and 31 mm in rural Sikar. The Meteorological Centre forecasts light to moderate rain and thunderstorms on Wednesday, especially in parts of Kota, Udaipur, Bharatpur, and Jaipur divisions. However, this relief is expected to be short-lived as the rainfall activity is projected to weaken over the next 3–4 days.
A fresh heatwave is likely to commence from May 9, particularly affecting western Rajasthan. Samdari town in Balotra district experienced a hailstorm and heavy rain, while Udaipur saw sudden weather changes with storms disrupting normal life. The storm caused power outages in several areas, with winds reaching speeds of up to 50 kmph, providing relief from the heat.
Following the weakening of the Western Disturbance, most parts of the state are expected to become dry, although isolated areas in northeastern Rajasthan may still experience light rain or storms. Between May 8 and May 11, maximum temperatures in Jodhpur and Bikaner divisions are expected to soar to 45–46 degrees Celsius, indicating the onset of a severe heatwave.
