Light to moderate rainfall is predicted in isolated areas of the Western Ghats districts of Tamil Nadu in the upcoming days, while most parts of the state will likely continue to have dry weather with temperatures above normal. The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) forecasts this weather pattern due to variations in the speed of the prevailing westerly winds.
According to the latest weather bulletin, from July 13 to July 18, certain regions in the Western Ghats districts may experience light to moderate showers. Conversely, the rest of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are anticipated to remain mostly dry during this period, with occasional brief spells of light rain in isolated places.
The weather office has cautioned that maximum temperatures in some parts of Tamil Nadu could be 2 to 4 degrees Celsius higher than seasonal averages between July 13 and July 16. Meteorologists have highlighted the potential for significant heat discomfort due to the combination of high temperatures and elevated humidity levels, particularly in the coastal districts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.
The prevailing weather conditions are expected to create sultry atmospheres in various coastal areas, even without widespread rainfall. The RMC has emphasized that the humidity, along with soaring daytime temperatures, might make outdoor activities uncomfortable, especially in the afternoons.
In Chennai, partly cloudy weather is anticipated, with maximum temperatures around 38 to 39 degrees Celsius and minimum temperatures between 28 and 29 degrees Celsius. Residents are advised to be cautious of heat-related discomfort due to the hot and humid conditions. Authorities recommend minimizing unnecessary outdoor exposure during peak daytime hours and ensuring adequate fluid intake, especially for children, senior citizens, and individuals with pre-existing health conditions.
While rainfall activity is expected to be limited mainly to the Western Ghats districts, meteorologists will continue to monitor atmospheric conditions for any significant changes in the upcoming days.
