Jaipur, Aug 3 (IANS) Ahead of the upcoming Urban Local Body and Panchayat elections in Rajasthan, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has undertaken a significant organisational reshuffle by revising its divisional election steering committee just a week after announcing the list.
The move reflects the party’s efforts to strengthen its election strategy, balance regional representation, and assign key responsibilities to senior leaders.
As part of the reshuffle, senior BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Ghanshyam Tiwari has been appointed Chairman of the Local Body Election Manifesto Committee, which will prepare the party’s vision document for the civic polls.
The revised list introduces notable changes in the Jaipur, Ajmer, Bharatpur, and Bikaner divisions, while the committees for Jodhpur, Kota, and Udaipur remain unchanged.
In Jaipur Division, former BJP State Vice-President Prasann Chand Mehta has been appointed to the Jaipur division following Ghanshyam Tiwari’s new assignment.
Former MLA Shankar Singh Rajpurohit has also been shifted from Bharatpur to Jaipur. Ajmer Division has former Minister Lalchand Kataria, who has been assigned responsibility for the Ajmer division in place of Jaipur.
Former BJP State President Arun Chaturvedi has also been moved from Bharatpur to Ajmer.
Former BJP State President Ashok Parnami has been shifted from Ajmer to Bharatpur.
Rajya Sabha MP Alka Singh has been inducted into the committee for the first time.
In Bikaner Division, former Leader of Opposition Rajendra Gehlot and BJP State Vice-President Jyoti Mirdha have been included in the Bikaner Division committee.
Former MP Santosh Ahlawat has been dropped from the divisional steering committee.
To prepare the party’s agenda for the Urban Local Body elections, the BJP has constituted a dedicated Local Body Election Manifesto Committee under the leadership of Rajya Sabha MP Ghanshyam Tiwari.
The committee also includes former MP Santosh Ahlawat, former Rajya Sabha MP Rajendra Kumar Gehlot, BJP State General Secretary Shravan Singh Bagdi, and former MLA Mohanlal Gupta.
Recognising their experience in urban governance, the BJP has also included several former mayors in the committee, including Somya Gurjar (Jaipur), Mahesh Vijayvargiya (Kota), Govind Tank (Udaipur), Brijlata Hada (Ajmer), Sushila Rajpurohit (Bikaner), Krishna Katara (Banswara), Rakesh Sharma (Bhilwara), and Girish Chaudhary (Bharatpur).
The committee has been tasked with collecting public suggestions on local issues such as urban infrastructure, sanitation, roads, drinking water, and civic amenities before drafting the BJP’s official election manifesto for municipal corporations, municipal councils, and municipalities across Rajasthan.
The BJP’s decision to revise the committee within just seven days has generated political discussion.
Party observers believe the reshuffle is aimed at strengthening election management by balancing regional representation, making better use of experienced leaders, and addressing internal organisational requirements ahead of the local body elections.
With civic and Panchayat elections approaching, the BJP appears to be fine-tuning its organisational structure to consolidate its electoral position and present a coordinated campaign across the state.
