Jaipur, Aug 6 (IANS) Police have intensified their investigation into the murder of security guard Sahabram at the Government Observation and Juvenile Home in Rajasthan’s Sri Ganganagar.
Investigators were examining CCTV footage to reconstruct the sequence of events, while Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and Mobile Officer Branch (MOB) teams collected evidence from the scene. The three juveniles detained in connection with the case are being questioned.
Police said the motive behind the attack has not yet been established.
According to police, preparations for the Independence Day programme were underway on Wednesday evening at the juvenile observation home. During the preparations, a cooler reportedly developed a fault, and Sahabram went to fetch tools from another security guard stationed outside the premises. Police allege that as he walked away, three juveniles attacked him from behind with a metal bar taken from a bench, striking him multiple times on the head. He sustained critical head injuries and died at the scene.
Following the incident, District Collector Dr Amit Yadav, Superintendent of Police Harishankar Yadav, Additional District Collector Subhash Kumar, Additional SP Deepak Sharma, City Circle Officer Vishnu Khatri, and Old Abadi SHO Suman Parihar visited the observation home to inspect the crime scene. The officials also received a detailed briefing from Rajiv Jakhar, an officer of the Department of Child Rights.
The incident has raised serious concerns about security at the juvenile observation home. Questions are being raised over surveillance, staffing, and security protocols after juveniles allegedly carried out a fatal attack on a security guard inside the facility.
Police are continuing their investigation, while the district administration has also sought a detailed report on the incident.
Jogendra Kaushik, Chairperson of the Child Welfare Committee, said the number of juveniles admitted to the correction home for drug-related offences has been increasing. At present, 27 juveniles are housed at the facility, including some transferred from Hanumangarh district.
He added that the issue had recently been discussed during an official review meeting.
Sahabram, a resident of Ambe Vihar Colony in Sri Ganganagar, had retired from the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and had been working as a security guard at the juvenile correction home for the past few months.
He is survived by his wife, son, and daughter, with both now married. According to family members, Sahabram’s wife has been suffering from a serious kidney ailment, and he was preparing to take her outside the district for medical treatment. His sudden death has left the family devastated.
After news of the incident spread, relatives, friends, and local residents gathered at the hospital and the observation home, where grief and shock prevailed. Police have continued questioning the detained juveniles as the investigation progresses.
