In a significant anti-corruption move, the Rajasthan Anti-Corruption Bureau apprehended Anandilal Meena, the Joint Director of Agriculture Extension in Baran district, for allegedly taking an Rs 8,000 bribe. The arrest occurred during a meticulously planned operation by the ACB team. Following a complaint lodged on May 4 by two individuals, accusing the officer of soliciting Rs 5,000 each from agricultural input vendors, the ACB took action.
The complainants alleged that the bribe was in exchange for verifying their stock registers, a necessary administrative procedure for their businesses. Acting promptly, the ACB initiated a covert verification process on May 5, which substantiated the allegations. Investigators discovered that the accused had already received Rs 2,000 as a partial payment from one complainant and was pressing for the remaining Rs 3,000.
Under the supervision of Deputy Inspector General of Police Omprakash Meena, the ACB team set up a trap on May 6. The operation, led by Additional Superintendent of Police Kalu Ram Verma and executed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Premchand, resulted in the official’s apprehension while accepting a total bribe of Rs 8,000. A case has been filed against the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act, with ongoing inquiries to determine potential involvement of others or similar demands from different vendors in the district.
