As the race for Rajya Sabha seats in Rajasthan intensifies, the affidavits of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) nominees Satish Poonia and Alka Singh Gurjar unveil a mix of political standing, wealth, and debts. Combined, the two candidates and their families possess assets exceeding Rs 14 crore, with liabilities surpassing Rs 1.6 crore.
Former Rajasthan BJP President Satish Poonia and his spouse hold movable and immovable assets valued at nearly Rs 6.45 crore, alongside outstanding liabilities of about Rs 1.14 crore, as per the nomination documents. In contrast, former MLA Alka Singh Gurjar, her husband, and senior BJP leader Nathu Singh Gurjar own assets worth almost Rs 7.76 crore, with liabilities exceeding Rs 47 lakh.
Despite their millionaire status, neither candidate owns a car in their name, as revealed in the affidavits. Satish Poonia’s sole registered vehicle is a scooter, while his wife possesses a car. Poonia, a former Rajasthan BJP President, has disclosed gold jewellery worth approximately Rs 3 lakh, while his wife’s gold and silver ornaments are valued at nearly Rs 10 lakh.
Alka Singh Gurjar, a seasoned BJP figure deeply rooted in the party’s structure, hails from a family closely linked to the BJP’s political journey in Rajasthan. Her husband, Nathu Singh Gurjar, has held Ministerial positions and key party roles. The affidavits indicate that Alka Gurjar owns gold and diamond jewellery worth around Rs 19 lakh, while her husband’s jewellery is valued at nearly Rs 2 lakh.
The Gurjar family possesses 13 bighas of agricultural land and prime real estate, including plots in Jaipur’s Sumel area, making Alka Gurjar wealthier than her BJP counterpart Satish Poonia. These disclosures provide insight into the financial backgrounds of two prominent BJP leaders poised to enter Parliament via the Rajya Sabha, showcasing the party’s organizational prowess and political sway in Rajasthan.
