Rajasthan’s Chief Secretary, V. Srinivas, has reiterated the government’s focus on improving the financial stability of the state’s power distribution companies (DISCOMs). He highlighted the importance of financial discipline, modern technologies adoption, and timely execution of renewable energy projects to ensure a sustainable and efficient power sector in the state.
During a high-level review meeting at the Government Secretariat, the Chief Secretary assessed the progress of debt restructuring, Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects, Green Energy Corridor Phase-II, and the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. He urged officials to ensure the prompt implementation of these initiatives to enhance the performance of the power sector.
Srinivas stressed the significance of strengthening the balance sheets of Rajasthan’s DISCOMs for better power sector performance. He underlined the necessity of maintaining financial discipline, embracing modern technologies, and expediting renewable energy projects to ensure long-term sustainability.
Reviewing the pilot BESS projects, the Chief Secretary highlighted the technology’s role in efficiently storing surplus electricity generated under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana and other solar power projects. He mentioned that battery storage could notably reduce the need for purchasing expensive electricity during peak demand hours, leading to substantial annual savings for DISCOMs and improved power supply for consumers.
