The Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee (RPCC) plans to name chairpersons for newly formed Gram Panchayats, with the selection of ward presidents for urban local bodies already underway. Starting April 1, 2026, the RPCC will kick off a statewide campaign called “Sangathan Badhao-Loktantra Bachao” (Strengthen the Organisation-Save Democracy). RPCC President Govind Singh Dotasra disclosed this initiative during a press conference at the State Congress headquarters in Jaipur.
Dotasra accused the Rajasthan government of avoiding elections to urban local bodies and Panchayati Raj institutions due to the fear of losing. He criticized the government for delaying the formation of the OBC Representation Commission and now using its non-submission as a reason to postpone elections, despite court orders. Dotasra emphasized that this action undermines democratic processes and criticized the use of an allegedly flawed voter list for Panchayati Raj elections.
The RPCC’s 30-day awareness campaign, starting April 1, aims to educate the public on democratic rights and organizational strengthening. Dotasra, along with Leader of the Opposition Tikaram Jully, will tour various districts, including Beawar and Balotra on April 2 and 3. Concerns were also raised over a cooking gas shortage, with Dotasra attributing it to policy failures of the Central government and the state’s governance.
