The Rajasthan High Court administration is implementing video conferencing for court proceedings to reduce fuel consumption and operational costs. Court cases at the Jodhpur Principal Bench and Jaipur Bench will be conducted virtually on May 22, May 26, and May 27, 2026, as part of a pilot initiative. This decision aligns with recent directives from the Department of Personnel and Training and the Supreme Court focusing on fuel conservation and uninterrupted judicial operations.
The court proceedings at both benches will be held through video conferencing on the specified dates. However, physical hearings will still occur when deemed necessary by the courts. The High Court administration consulted with the Bar Associations of both benches before finalizing this initiative. They urge advocates, litigants, and stakeholders to support the fuel conservation effort by opting for virtual hearings whenever possible.
In addition to promoting virtual participation, lawyers and visitors are encouraged to reduce unnecessary travel and consider vehicle-pooling to save on petrol and diesel. This move gains significance amidst growing concerns about fuel conservation, environmental sustainability, and cost-effective administrative practices. Notably, Justice Sameer Jain’s recent bicycle commute to the Jaipur Bench highlighted the importance of fuel conservation and environmental awareness.
Legal experts suggest that if successful, this pilot initiative could lead to more frequent adoption of hybrid or virtual proceedings in future administrative planning. The High Court administration assures that judicial work and access to justice will remain unaffected, ensuring smooth proceedings during the designated virtual hearing days.
