The Rajasthan High Court has denied bail to three Rohingya nationals from Myanmar who are accused of living in India under false identities and trafficking Bangladeshi girls to various parts of the country. The bail pleas of Mohammad Usman, Shafi Alam alias Shofi Alam, and Rabi-ul-Islam were dismissed by a Division Bench comprising Justice Indrajit Singh and Justice Bhuwan Goyal. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) stated that the accused had concealed their identities while residing in India for several years.
According to the NIA, the trio allegedly made illegal trips to Bangladesh and illegally brought around 30 Bangladeshi girls into India before their arrest in 2023. These girls were reportedly trafficked and sold in Hyderabad, Jammu & Kashmir, Assam, and Rajasthan. Multiple human trafficking cases have been registered against them in different states, and they were arrested by the NIA based on intelligence inputs from Rajasthan and Haryana.
Initially, their bail applications were rejected by a Special NIA Court in Jaipur in 2024, following which they approached the High Court. The NIA claimed that the accused, Mohammad Usman, Shafi Alam, and Rabi-ul-Islam, had entered India through the Bangladesh border during 2011-12 and were residing in different states using concealed identities. The agency further alleged that they obtained Aadhaar cards, mobile SIM cards, and bank accounts through forged documents.
The NIA accused them of bringing Rohingya girls into India and organizing their marriages in various cities as part of a larger conspiracy. It also alleged that the network aimed to integrate these girls into Indian society for potential exploitation in anti-national activities. Despite the defense’s argument that the accused were falsely implicated and had been in custody for over two years, the Rajasthan High Court dismissed their bail pleas, allowing the trial to proceed while they remain in judicial custody.
