Responding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for fuel conservation, Justice Sameer Jain of the Rajasthan High Court chose to cycle from his home in Gandhinagar to the court premises instead of using his official car. Accompanied by security personnel, Justice Jain went unnoticed by the public as he pedaled through regular commuters to reach the High Court, sparking discussions among legal professionals and judicial officers. This move is part of a wider initiative to promote fuel saving following the Prime Minister’s recent plea to cut down on unnecessary petrol and diesel usage.
Officials have hinted that more judges may follow suit in the upcoming days by opting for bicycles or other eco-friendly modes of transportation. Additionally, reports suggest that the Governor and Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma have downsized their official convoys, removing several support vehicles like ambulances and tail cars, reducing the convoys to just three or four vehicles. The Chief Minister was also seen using an electric vehicle at a public event in Jaipur, while the Deputy Chief Minister traveled to Dudu in a Rajasthan Roadways bus.
In a significant development related to the fuel conservation campaign, the Rajasthan government has postponed the Global Rajasthan Agritech Meet (GRAM 2026), originally planned from May 23 to 25 at the JECC in Sitapura, Jaipur. The event, which was anticipated to draw thousands of vehicles for transporting farmers from all over the state to Jaipur, had preparations underway for over a month. BJP units at district and block levels had been actively involved in mobilizing vehicles for the event, with some already transformed into “Gram Raths” for promotional purposes before the event was deferred.
