The Rajasthan High Court has instructed prison authorities to ensure ongoing medical treatment and essential healthcare services for Asaram, a self-styled godman serving a life sentence for a minor’s sexual assault. Considering Asaram’s age and health, the court directed the jail to provide uninterrupted medical care and arrange hospital admission if necessary. Asaram’s petition highlighted his need for specialized medical attention and essential facilities due to age-related health issues.
The court emphasized the importance of maintaining existing healthcare arrangements based on previous orders and medical records. Asaram’s lawyers informed the court about his prolonged health problems and the need for continuous medical monitoring. Stressing the jail’s responsibility for inmates’ health, the court mandated specialist consultations, appropriate diets, and other essential facilities without any disruptions.
Noting a recent plea for medical relief and Asaram’s hospitalization due to deteriorating health, the court ordered regular health monitoring and the availability of necessary medical services. Asaram, aged 86, has been seeking bail citing his age and ailments, with the Supreme Court granting him interim medical bail in January 2025 under specific conditions.
