Rajasthan Police in Bhilwara apprehended a group of female thieves from Madhya Pradesh who targeted religious gatherings to steal jewelry. The gang, consisting of seven women, including elderly members, was caught after a theft complaint at a temple event in Kotri. Shockingly, an X-ray revealed that one of the accused had swallowed a mangalsutra and gold beads.
The arrested women, identified as Shanu (31), Vratika (20), Barji Bai (52), Basanti (60), Maina (28), Payal (20), and Sapna (32), hailed from villages in Neemuch district, Madhya Pradesh. The theft occurred during a crowded event at Charbhuja Temple on Sheetla Saptami, where the gang targeted women amidst the gathering.
During a night patrol, the police detained the suspects after spotting them in a car, leading to their confession of the thefts. Medical examinations revealed that the women had swallowed or hidden the stolen jewelry to avoid detection. Investigators are now probing if the gang was involved in similar thefts at other events.
