In a move against organized crime, Rajasthan Police is pursuing the seizure of illegal assets totaling over Rs 220 crore from 636 criminals in the state. Under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma’s directives, assets worth around Rs 32 crore in 13 cases have already been confiscated. The state’s crackdown on crime includes stripping criminals of wealth gained unlawfully, not just imprisonment.
The initiative aims to disrupt the financial roots of criminal networks in Rajasthan. Police, led by Director General Rajiv Kumar Sharma, have identified assets acquired through criminal means by 636 individuals. Legal actions have been initiated in 584 cases to attach and seize these assets, with notices issued in 182 cases for further proceedings. Notably, Bundi Police achieved a significant victory by seizing assets worth nearly Rs 12 crore in a single case.
In parallel, authorities are demolishing properties linked to criminal activities. From January to May 2026, Rajasthan Police conducted 39 demolition operations, destroying illegal assets valued at Rs 35.10 crore. Jhalawar saw the highest number of actions, with 12 operations resulting in the demolition of properties worth about Rs 22.90 crore. Additionally, the state is actively combating narcotics trafficking through the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF).
Utilizing the NDPS Act, cases were filed against 36 drug traffickers between January and April 2026. Proposals to freeze and seize assets of 28 traffickers worth nearly Rs 33 crore have been approved. This strategic move aims to weaken the financial backbone of the drug trade and advance efforts for a drug-free Rajasthan. The enforcement of Section 107 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, effective since July 2024, has been pivotal in targeting criminal wealth and promoting a victim-centric approach.
To enhance execution, Police Headquarters issued Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to districts for identifying, attaching, and confiscating illicitly obtained assets. The new legal framework also emphasizes compensating victims using seized assets from criminals. Eligible victims can reclaim their property or seek relief through the District Collector’s office, offering redress to those impacted by criminal actions. Rajasthan’s strategy against organized crime focuses on disrupting criminal finances as a key element.
