Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister, Diya Kumari, informed the state Assembly that residents living within a 20-km radius of state-controlled toll plazas can avail of concessional monthly toll passes. She clarified that there are no current plans to exempt light motor vehicles (LMVs) from toll payments across the state. Toll collection is active on 83 state roads and national highways, managed by various state authorities including the Rajasthan State Highway Authority and the Public Works Department.
The introduction of monthly passes aims to ease the financial burden on local commuters who frequently pass through toll plazas for work, education, and essential travel. These concessional passes are specifically designed to support residents residing near toll corridors. Previously, private non-transport vehicles were exempted from toll charges on state highways as per a 2018 notification, but this exemption was revoked in 2019 by a policy decision of the state government.
Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari emphasized the significance of toll revenue in funding road infrastructure maintenance and upgrades. Policy decisions regarding toll exemptions are carefully evaluated considering financial and administrative implications. The state government continuously reviews toll policies to strike a balance between infrastructure development requirements and public convenience.
