Rajasthan Royals’ fast bowler Nandre Burger has been fined 10% of his match fees and received a demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during their recent match against Lucknow Super Giants. Burger admitted to a Level 1 offence for using language and gestures that could provoke an aggressive response from another player during the game. Despite this incident, RR secured a 40-run victory over LSG, with Burger playing a crucial role by taking key wickets.
The incident occurred when Burger gestured aggressively and used abusive language towards LSG captain Rishabh Pant after dismissing him for a duck in the match. Burger’s actions led to the imposition of the fine and demerit point, as per the IPL’s statement. The governing body clarified that accumulation of four demerit points could result in a suspension, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the Code of Conduct to avoid penalties.
Ravindra Jadeja’s unbeaten 43 off 29 balls and a strong bowling performance by Jofra Archer were instrumental in RR’s victory. Despite a shaky start, RR managed to post 159/6, with Jadeja and Shubham Dubey’s partnership boosting the total in the final over. LSG struggled in their chase, losing early wickets including that of Pant and Aiden Markram. Archer’s impressive bowling, supported by Nandre Burger and Brijesh Sharma, restricted LSG’s innings, leading to their defeat.
