Rajasthan Royals’ head coach, Kumar Sangakkara, expressed confidence in the team’s preparations for the upcoming 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Following a disappointing performance in IPL 2025, where they finished ninth, the team focused on strengthening various areas, such as batting depth and spin bowling options.
Sangakkara highlighted the importance of enhancing skills like batting depth, local spin, and all-rounders to revamp the team’s strategy. Through trades and auction acquisitions, Rajasthan Royals secured players like Ravi Bishnoi, Ravindra Jadeja, and Sam Curran to bolster their squad.
Looking ahead to their opening match against CSK on March 30, Sangakkara emphasized the need for execution and teamwork. He stressed the significance of players believing in each other, preparing diligently, and focusing on performance rather than just results.
The decision to appoint Riyan Parag as the new captain was based on his leadership qualities, with Sangakkara praising Parag’s maturity and reflective nature. The selection process involved a thorough evaluation of candidates, ultimately leading to the unanimous decision within the RR management to entrust Parag with the captaincy.
