The Rajasthan School Education Department is revamping career guidance to be an ongoing process for students, adapting to evolving career landscapes. This initiative aims to empower students in making well-informed career decisions by strengthening the state’s guidance system.
Dalchand Gupta, Deputy Director of Vocational Education, highlighted the importance of providing students with relevant guidance tailored to the current scenario to aid them in choosing the most suitable career path. The department’s efforts align with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, emphasizing the concept of “living a career, not just choosing one.”
In line with this vision, a comprehensive three-year roadmap is being developed to establish structured career guidance throughout the state. This roadmap is a collaborative effort between the Rajasthan School Education Council (Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan) in Jaipur, the Rajasthan State Council of Educational Research and Training (RSCERT) in Udaipur, with support from UNICEF Rajasthan and the Antarang Foundation.
Students will be encouraged to chart their career trajectories based on their interests, aptitudes, and skills under this initiative. The department plans to enhance the role of career counselors at the school level and deliver career guidance through a mix of hybrid learning modules, digital platforms, and practical exposure beyond traditional classroom settings.
Efforts are underway to build a robust ecosystem by fostering collaboration among teachers, parents, students, and industry stakeholders. The primary goal is not just to enhance students’ employability but also to equip them with essential decision-making skills for all life stages.
A state-level workshop recently convened to strategize comprehensive career guidance, emphasizing effective communication and confidence-building for students. Additional State Project Director (Second) Ashok Kumar Meena emphasized the importance of students choosing careers aligned with their interests and strengths.
