The Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) has gathered more than Rs 100 crore in property and water taxes for the financial year 2026-27 in less than a month since starting its annual tax recovery campaign. Commencing tax collection for the current fiscal year on April 7, by April 30, a total of 1,65,559 taxpayers had settled their dues, resulting in revenue of Rs 100.17 crore. Of this sum, Rs 72.57 crore came from online payments by 1,22,141 taxpayers, while Rs 27.68 crore was received through cheque and cash payments from 43,418 taxpayers.
The Municipal Corporation disclosed that individuals who chose to make advance payments under the rebate scheme were granted discounts totaling nearly Rs 11.99 crore. As per the Tax Recovery Department, general taxpayers will enjoy a 10% discount on advance tax payments until May 31, while women taxpayers will receive a 15% rebate during the same period. From June 1 to June 30, the rebate will be reduced to 5% for general taxpayers and 10% for women taxpayers.
The corporation urged all property owners within municipal limits to capitalize on the rebate schemes by settling their taxes within the specified deadlines. In a separate development, the Rajkot Urban Development Authority (RUDA) has revoked five housing allotments under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) due to beneficiaries failing to clear pending instalment payments despite repeated notices.
