Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has arrived in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Defence Ministers’ Meeting. He was welcomed by Ambassador Singh at Manas airport on April 27, 2026, for the event scheduled from April 27 to 28, 2026. Singh aims to emphasize India’s dedication to global peace and its unwavering stance against terrorism and extremism during the meeting.
Before his departure for Kyrgyzstan, Singh expressed his intention to address the current global security challenges and highlight India’s commitment to global peace. He also plans to engage in bilateral discussions with counterparts from other SCO member states and interact with the Indian Community in Bishkek.
The Defence Ministers of various SCO member countries will convene in Bishkek to discuss defense and security issues in the region. The agenda includes deliberations on international peace, counter-terrorism efforts, and enhancing defense cooperation among SCO member states. This year’s meeting is significant against the backdrop of geopolitical unrest, particularly in West Asia, prompting discussions on mitigating the impact of the ongoing conflicts.
India, Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Iran, and Belarus are the current members of the SCO.
