The ongoing disruptions led to the House being adjourned multiple times throughout the day, with the latest adjournment until 5.15 p.m. The Opposition’s uproar, particularly demanding a response from Union Home Minister Amit Shah on alleged police actions, added to the chaos.
The Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amendment) Bill, 2026, introduced in the Rajya Sabha on July 24, aims to provide legal protection to India’s national song, Vande Mataram, akin to the national anthem, Jana Gana Mana. The day’s disruptions marked another instance of the Monsoon Session being marred by continuous protests, hindering the House’s proceedings.
Despite the Deputy Chairman’s attempts to facilitate a structured discussion on the Bill, the persistent sloganeering by opposition members led to the day’s adjournment.
