Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan has urged all leaders of Parliamentary parties and members to collaborate in making the Budget Session fruitful. He emphasized the importance of this session in advancing towards a prosperous and self-reliant India. Radhakrishnan’s call for cooperation was made at the commencement of the 270th Session of Rajya Sabha, known as the Budget Session of the Parliament.
During the 30 sittings of the session, there will be a comprehensive review of the Union Budget 2026-27 and the government’s legislative proposals. Additionally, the Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committees will meticulously scrutinize the Demands for Grants of the Ministries and Departments during the recess.
Highlighting India’s recent economic progress, the Vice President noted the nation’s position as the fastest-growing major economy globally, on track to become the third largest soon. He stressed the pivotal role of parliamentarians in shaping the country’s economic trajectory given India’s increasing influence and standing in the global economy.
The Vice President called upon all members to actively contribute to discussions in the House and committees. Upholding the values of democracy, discipline, and enlightenment, as advocated by Mahatma Gandhi, was also emphasized. The session will involve crucial deliberations on government budgetary proposals and significant Bills, necessitating focused attention and efficient utilization of time to fulfill the people’s aspirations.
Encouraging robust Parliamentary oversight and upholding parliamentary decorum and order were highlighted as essential responsibilities of the members. The Vice President underscored the significance of respectful exchanges of opinions and constructive debates in parliamentary discourse. He urged a session characterized by decorum, discipline, and dignified conduct to ensure meaningful deliberations and transactions in the House.
