Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan inaugurated a two-day Orientation Programme ‘Prarambh’ for newly elected/nominated members, urging them to commit fully to their roles. He emphasized the importance of members’ contributions during parliamentary sessions, stating that even small suggestions can lead to significant policy changes. Radhakrishnan stressed the need for unwavering dedication to the people and the Constitution, highlighting the common moral compass they provide.
Deputy Chairman Harivansh, present at the event, encouraged the new Members to play a pivotal role in shaping a ‘Viksit Bharat @2047’ (Developed India @2047) during the ‘Amrit Kaal’. He outlined the responsibilities of new Members, including holding the government accountable, offering constructive criticism, and providing guidance and advice. Harivansh emphasized that new Members have the right to question the government, raise public interest issues, and provide input on legislative matters.
Radhakrishnan acknowledged the 67 first-time Members in the House, commending their commitment to parliamentary duties despite prior engagements in their states. He underscored the significance of Question Hour and Zero Hour, stating that these sessions offer crucial opportunities for Members to engage meaningfully. Radhakrishnan highlighted the Rajya Sabha’s role as a cornerstone of India’s federal democracy, uniting diverse regional voices to strengthen national unity and integration. He emphasized the shared commitment to the Constitution, the vision of ‘Nation First (Rashtra Pratham)’, and the goal of a ‘Viksit Bharat @ 2047’.
