Ranchi Royals showcased a dominant performance in the Men’s Hockey India League (HIL) against SG Pipers, securing a convincing 6-2 victory. Captain Tom Boon’s exceptional five-goal display highlighted the Royals’ attacking strength in front of their home crowd at the Marang Gomke Astro Turf Hockey Stadium in Ranchi. Mandeep Singh and Tom Boon were the scorers for the Royals, while Tomas Domene and Gareth Furlong found the net for the Pipers.
The match began with Ranchi Royals taking control early on, initiating the first attacking move. Despite SG Pipers settling into the game, they faced a close opportunity to score in the fourth minute, which was skillfully defended by a Royals player. The first quarter ended with Mandeep Singh’s goal giving Ranchi Royals a 1-0 lead.
In the second quarter, Ranchi Royals extended their lead to 2-0 with a penalty stroke converted by captain Tom Boon. SG Pipers fought back, narrowing the gap with Tomas Domene’s goal from a penalty corner. Despite the Pipers’ efforts, the Royals maintained a 2-1 lead at halftime.
The third quarter saw a resurgence from SG Pipers as Gareth Furlong’s penalty corner goal equalized the score. However, Ranchi Royals quickly regained control with Tom Boon scoring two more goals, completing a hat-trick and putting the hosts ahead 4-2 going into the final quarter. The Royals sealed their victory with two more goals from Boon, ending the match with a resounding 6-2 win.
