Incidents of shocking and rare bee attacks have caused panic in the Begun subdivision of Chittorgarh, Rajasthan. The attacks resulted in two fatalities and over 40 injuries, disrupting a funeral ceremony. The chaos unfolded when an 80-year-old man, Jamnalal, was attacked by bees while performing a ritual in a nearby village. Despite efforts to save him, he passed away due to his injuries.
Tragedy struck again during the funeral proceedings at the Parsoli Mokshdham cremation ground. Another swarm of bees attacked the mourners, leading to panic and chaos as people scattered in fear. Around 40–50 individuals were stung, with seven sustaining critical injuries and requiring urgent medical attention. Among the critically injured was Bhawani Shankar Pandya, an 80-year-old who succumbed to multiple bee stings shortly after being admitted to the hospital.
The injured victims are currently receiving treatment in various hospital wards, including isolation and general medical units. To ensure safety, a limited team in protective gear returned to the cremation ground under medical supervision to complete the last rites. Local officials, such as Sub-Divisional Officer Ankit Samaria and Tehsildar Gopal Jinagar, swiftly responded to the emergency and coordinated medical assistance efforts.
Authorities have initiated an investigation into the unusual series of bee attacks that occurred during a ritual and a funeral, events that are considered highly uncommon. The community remains unsettled by the incidents, prompting authorities to explore potential triggers for the aggressive bee behavior, such as environmental factors or disturbances near bee habitats.
