The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has named Ravi Shankar as its new Executive Director (ED), effective from July 1. Shankar previously held the position of Adviser-In-Charge of the RBI’s Department of Statistics and Information Management. In his new role, he will continue to oversee this department, leveraging his over three decades of experience at the RBI.
Shankar, a seasoned central banker and statistician, has a diverse background encompassing corporate and banking statistics, government securities market, settlement systems, debt management, and survey-related functions. The RBI highlighted his involvement in various committees and working groups focusing on macroeconomic statistics and policy matters.
With a Master’s degree in Statistics from Banaras Hindu University and additional qualifications in Development Policy and Planning, Shankar is well-equipped for his new responsibilities. The RBI’s decision to appoint him underscores its commitment to bolstering leadership in critical functional areas, with a specific focus on enhancing statistical and information management functions.
