Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) faced a setback against Gujarat Titans, losing by four wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Despite a strong start by opener Virat Kohli, RCB struggled due to consistent wicket losses, finishing with a below-par total of 155 runs.
Batting coach Dinesh Karthik praised Kohli’s aggressive play but acknowledged that the frequent fall of wickets disrupted the team’s momentum. Karthik emphasized the importance of partnerships in T20 games, noting that RCB’s inability to build them led to their downfall.
While Kohli scored a quick 28 off 13 balls and Devdutt Padikkal contributed 40 runs, a collapse in the middle-order prevented RCB from posting a competitive score. Karthik expressed disappointment at the team’s below-par performance, attributing it to the continuous loss of wickets.
Despite the defeat, Karthik commended RCB’s fielding effort and the bowlers’ resilience in trying to defend the total. He highlighted the team’s fighting spirit and expressed pride in their performance despite the outcome.
RCB director of cricket Mo Bobat also praised the bowlers for their hard work in challenging the Gujarat Titans during the chase. Bobat emphasized the importance of making the opposition work for their victory, even in defeat.
Gujarat Titans, led by captain Shubman Gill’s explosive 43 off 18 balls, successfully chased down the target with contributions from Jos Buttler and Rahul Tewatia. Looking forward, Bobat emphasized the need for improvement as RCB prepares for their upcoming match against Lucknow Super Giants.
Despite the loss, RCB maintains their second position in the points table with 12 points from nine matches. They are set to play against Lucknow Super Giants on May 7.
