Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) secured their second Women’s Premier League (WPL) championship by defeating Delhi Capitals by six wickets at the BCA Stadium in Vadodara. Captain Jemimah Rodrigues led Delhi Capitals to a total of 203/4, but RCB successfully chased it down in 19.4 overs, marking the highest successful chase in a WPL final.
This victory not only crowned RCB as the first team to win the title after topping the group stage but also made them the first franchise to hold both IPL and WPL titles simultaneously. Captain Smriti Mandhana played a stellar innings, scoring 87 runs off 41 balls, including 12 fours and three sixes, becoming the tournament’s leading run-scorer.
Smriti’s exceptional partnership with Georgia Voll, who scored 79 off 54 balls, was crucial in RCB’s chase. The duo’s aggressive batting approach, with boundaries in almost every over, showcased their dominance. Despite a slight stumble towards the end, Radha Yadav’s consecutive boundaries ensured RCB’s victory, leading to jubilant celebrations.
Delhi Capitals, appearing in their fourth consecutive final, fell short despite posting the highest total in a WPL final. RCB’s Grace Harris and Smriti Mandhana set the tone early in the chase with aggressive strokeplay, paving the way for a successful pursuit of the target.
