RCD Mallorca announced that Martin Demichelis will continue as head coach following the team’s relegation, aiming to secure a return to La Liga. Despite a 3-0 victory over Oviedo in their final game, Mallorca dropped to the second division with 42 points.
The club confirmed the extension of Demichelis’ contract until June 2028, expressing commitment for the next two years. Mallorca, along with Girona, faced relegation alongside Oviedo at the end of the La Liga season.
In their last match, Mallorca triumphed 3-0 over Oviedo, with goals from Pablo Torre, Manu Morlanes, and Vedat Muriqi, who scored his 23rd goal of the season. However, despite their win, Mallorca’s fate was sealed due to the head-to-head system used in Spain to separate teams on equal points.
Earlier in February 2026, Real Mallorca appointed former Argentina defender Demichelis as the new first-team coach, replacing Jagoba Arrasate. Arrasate was dismissed after a defeat to Celta Vigo, leaving Mallorca in the relegation zone with only 24 points from 25 games.
Demichelis, a former player for Bayern Munich, Malaga, and Manchester City, has also represented Argentina over 50 times. As a coach, he has experience with Bayern’s B-team, River Plate, and Monterrey, achieving success with River Plate in domestic competitions.
