The fifth and final Ashes Test between Australia and England at the Sydney Cricket Ground made history by drawing the highest-ever attendance for a Test match at the SCG. Surpassing the previous record set during the 1946-47 Ashes series, the 2025-26 Test attracted 211,032 spectators, outshining the 195,253 attendance figure of the earlier match.
Australia emerged victorious in the series with a 4-1 win over England. In the final Test, Australia secured a five-wicket triumph by successfully chasing a target of 160 runs on a challenging pitch on the last day. Mitchell Starc’s exceptional performance saw him claim 31 wickets in the series.
The match saw England starting positively on the final day, with Jacob Bethell reaching 150 runs and Matthew Potts contributing with the bat. However, Australia’s brisk start to the chase, led by Travis Head, laid a solid foundation. Despite some late drama and wickets falling quickly, a crucial partnership between Cameron Green and Alex Carey guided Australia to victory.
