The process of recounting postal ballots in Sringeri constituency for the 2023 Assembly elections, as directed by the Karnataka High Court, has been finished. The Election Commission of India has received the report. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has claimed victory based on figures from the Election Officer, though the official result is pending announcement by the ECI.
After the recount, Congress MLA T.D. Rajegowda celebrated what he claimed was a victory near the counting center. The BJP, following the completion of the recounting process, criticized the Congress party and Rahul Gandhi, alleging “vote theft.”
Election Officer Gaurav Kumar Shetty confirmed that the process adhered to the High Court’s directions. No official results will be declared yet as the report has been submitted to the Election Commission. BJP’s defeated candidate, D.N. Jeevaraj, had sought the recount challenging Rajegowda’s victory.
