India is working to deport illegally entered Bangladeshi nationals, catching the attention of ISI-backed groups for subversive activities. Following BJP’s success in West Bengal, there is a strong push to repatriate Bangladeshis who entered India in recent years. While the focus is currently on West Bengal and Assam, the effort will expand nationwide, as illegal Bangladeshis are also present in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Bihar, and Maharashtra. Many have integrated into the Bengali-speaking community, working in construction and plantations.
Intelligence reports suggest ISI-backed elements are scouting for these illegal immigrants in India, coercing them to join anti-national activities to avoid deportation. Recruitment efforts include tasks like committing murders, counterfeiting, and joining terror groups. The Lashkar-e-Taiba is involved in this recruitment process, targeting vulnerable Bangladeshi nationals amid the ongoing repatriation drive.
Recruitments are not based on ideology but on financial incentives, with the ISI investing heavily in the process. Illegal immigrants are enticed with money and warned about the repatriation threat to secure their cooperation. Detecting these individuals is challenging due to their illegal entry and possession of fake IDs, making tracking difficult for local authorities. ISI’s focus is now on Southern India, where a significant number of illegal Bangladeshi nationals reside, blending in due to linguistic similarities.
Officials caution against employing such individuals and stress the need for vigilance at the local police level. With ISI intensifying recruitment efforts, authorities emphasize the importance of staying alert and cooperating with law enforcement to prevent illegal activities by these migrants across the nation.
