The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Kolkata’s Alipore area has forecasted additional rainfall in the coming days for south Bengal districts and Kolkata. The city and its surrounding areas have been experiencing moderate to heavy rainfall since Sunday afternoon, with expectations for continued rain due to a depression forming in the Bay of Bengal. An official from RMC mentioned the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rain in certain areas, with continuous rain expected until Wednesday.
Due to the persistent rainfall, some roads in Kolkata have become waterlogged, and scattered showers are anticipated throughout Monday and the following two days. The Meteorological office reported that a low-pressure system in the northwest Bay of Bengal has intensified into a depression, moving towards the coast. By Tuesday, the system is expected to cross the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border, bringing heavy rainfall to various districts in south Bengal.
The monsoon activity is active in the state, with the axis extending from southwest Rajasthan to Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and the Bay of Bengal. This pattern suggests the likelihood of very heavy rainfall in south Bengal until Wednesday, with a potential increase in rainfall in north Bengal starting from Monday. Southern districts, including Kolkata, are expected to experience heavy rainfall, while an ‘Orange Alert’ has been issued for specific districts in the region. North Bengal is also expected to receive heavy rainfall, with certain districts likely to experience very heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds.
