Renowned Ikat weaver and innovator Sarat Kumar Patra expressed his gratitude for being nominated for the prestigious Padma Shri award by the Union and state governments. Patra, a Bandha Kala artisan from Cuttack district, is known for his exceptional handloom craftsmanship, creating various handwoven products that have earned recognition across society.
Following the nomination announcement, congratulatory messages have been pouring in for Patra, who has brought pride to the state of Odisha. His unique identity in the handloom art world, especially for his masterpiece depicting the Geeta Govinda on a 52-meter fabric, has elevated the Maniabandha handloom art to greater heights.
Noted folk theatre artist Simanchal Patro from Ganjam district has also been selected for the Padma Shri Award for his significant contributions to art and culture. Patro, dedicated to preserving Odisha’s traditional folk theatre, has garnered immense joy and celebration in his native village following the announcement.
