Repolling is currently taking place in 15 polling stations in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district, specifically in the Magarhat Paschim Assembly constituency and Diamond Harbour area. The voting process began at 7 A.M. and will continue until 6 P.M., with enhanced security measures in place to ensure a fair election. Voters have expressed mixed reactions, with some appreciating the improved arrangements and security, while others find the repolling process inconvenient.
Several voters have commended the Election Commission of India (ECI) for the arrangements made for the repoll. They acknowledged the necessity for the repoll due to a malfunctioning voting machine during the previous election. While some voters found the arrangements satisfactory and smooth, others criticized the inconvenience of having to vote again, expressing frustration over the repeated process.
The decision for repolling was based on reports submitted by Returning Officers and observers, citing “material circumstances.” Complaints of irregularities were reported, leading to the need for repolling in certain polling stations. The BJP alleged electoral malpractices in the Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha constituency, triggering the Election Commission to deploy a Special Observer to investigate the claims on-site.
