The search and rescue mission at the collapsed tunnel of the NHPC Teesta Stage VI Hydropower Project in Sikkim’s Namchi district has ended after all 25 missing workers and officials were recovered. Three additional bodies were found during the final phase, bringing the total to 25.
Following the recovery, a thorough inspection of the tunnel was conducted, and the records of all missing individuals were verified. Officials have confirmed that no workers are left trapped inside the tunnel, marking the conclusion of the intensive search and recovery efforts.
The victims, comprising employees and workers from NHPC Limited, ARX, and Patel Engineering Limited, belonged to ten different states across India. The bodies have been shifted to various hospitals for post-mortem examinations and identification, with identified bodies being handed over to their families.
The Sikkim government has formed a high-level committee to investigate the incident and recommend safety measures for future infrastructure projects. The rescue operation was carried out under the supervision of the Namchi district administration with support from multiple agencies, including NDRF, SDRF, and other departments.
