Rescue and evacuation operations persist in flood-affected areas of Assam as the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) escalates efforts amidst heavy rainfall and rising river levels. NDRF teams have rescued 59 individuals, relocated 4,037 residents to safer places, saved 48 livestock, and retrieved six bodies from flood-hit regions. The rescue teams are actively present in vulnerable districts, utilizing boats and specialized equipment for round-the-clock operations to combat the inundation caused by swollen rivers.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized the ongoing rescue and evacuation drive’s coordination among different agencies to ensure the safety of affected residents. The NDRF personnel, supported by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), district administrations, police, and local volunteers, are on high alert and engaged in rescuing stranded individuals, relocating vulnerable families to relief camps, and safeguarding livestock. The flood situation is being closely monitored as low-lying areas remain submerged, impacting transportation and disrupting daily life in numerous districts.
Authorities are advising people in vulnerable areas to adhere to official advisories and cooperate with rescue teams. Relief materials are being distributed through district administrations, and emergency response agencies are prepared to address any further deterioration in the flood situation. The state government assures that all departments are working together to mitigate the flood impact and provide timely aid to affected communities.
