Locals shared their reactions, with one resident expressing surprise at the Prime Minister’s involvement in the project, calling it beyond their expectations. Another resident also praised the initiative, emphasizing the significance for the country’s security.
The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, inaugurated the Emergency Landing Facility on the National Highway in Moran, making it the first such facility in the northeastern region. Following the inauguration, an air show by the Indian Air Force (IAF) showcased the operational capability of the facility with Rafale, Sukhoi, and MiG fighter aircraft performing take-offs and landings on the specially developed highway strip.
The Emergency Landing Facility in Moran, Assam, is a strategic addition to India’s military infrastructure in the Northeast, providing enhanced operational flexibility for the IAF in a region with increased tensions. Designed as an alternative landing option, the facility ensures operational continuity in scenarios where existing airfields are unavailable due to various constraints or emergencies.
Officials reported a significant turnout of at least one lakh people to witness the historic event, highlighting the facility’s importance in strengthening national security preparedness and the IAF’s responsiveness to contingencies near sensitive border areas.
