In Bihar, the Vigilance Investigation Bureau arrested a revenue employee at the Garhani Circle Office in Bhojpur district for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 3,500. The accused, Jitendra Kumar, was caught red-handed during a trap operation conducted by the vigilance team at the circle office premises.
The complaint against Jitendra Kumar was filed by Ramdev Ram, a resident of Adaura village in Bhojpur district. Ram alleged that Kumar had demanded money for processing a land mutation case. Following a preliminary verification by the Vigilance Investigation Bureau, a formal case was registered as the allegations were found to be true.
A trap team, led by DSP Gautam Krishna, was formed by the Vigilance Investigation Bureau. The team conducted the operation at the Garhani Circle Office, resulting in the accused being apprehended while accepting the bribe. Jitendra Kumar was taken into custody for questioning and is set to appear before the Special Vigilance Court in Patna.
The investigation is ongoing to ascertain if others were involved in the bribery case. This incident marks the 74th corruption-related case registered in 2026 by the Vigilance Investigation Bureau, with a total of 69 accused arrested in trap operations this year. The recovered bribe amount in these cases totals Rs 27,05,300, reflecting the challenges faced by anti-corruption agencies in addressing bribery in government offices.
