A reward of Rs 50,000 has been declared by Bhopal Police Commissioner Sanjay Kumar in connection with the murder of an elderly couple in the Aishbagh area. The victims, Hemant Barik (70) and his wife Shakuntala Barik (70), were found dead at their residence in Ambedkar Colony on June 28. Hemant Barik had a gunshot wound to the head, while his wife had two bullet injuries.

The police are investigating the case, which has not yet seen any major breakthroughs. Three empty cartridges were recovered from the crime scene and sent for forensic analysis, indicating close-range firing by the assailants. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising 12 members has been formed to probe the murders, with a focus on various aspects including CCTV footage, digital evidence, and witness statements.

The investigation is being conducted meticulously, with all potential angles being explored. The police are examining CCTV footage, mobile records, financial transactions, and statements from acquaintances of the victims. While robbery or dacoity has not been established as the motive, other possibilities such as property disputes and personal issues are being looked into. The public has been urged to come forward with any relevant information, with assurances of confidentiality.
