Several prominent human rights organizations have criticized the recent raid by Pakistani security forces on the home of Sammi Deen Baloch, a member of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) in Karachi. Sammi Deen alleged that law enforcement and intelligence officials conducted the raid in her absence and without prior notice early on Monday. She called for an immediate explanation from Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari regarding the incident.
Expressing deep concern over the situation, the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) urged the Sindh government to launch a prompt investigation into the raid and ensure the safety of Sammi and her family. The BYC characterized the action against Sammi as part of a broader pattern of coercive measures by Pakistani authorities against its leadership, involving arrests, raids, harassment, and other pressures. The Baloch Women Forum (BWF) also condemned the raid on Samee’s home and the violence against peaceful protesters in Quetta, denouncing it as part of the state’s aggression against the Baloch people.
The BWF highlighted Samee’s longstanding efforts in advocating for the safe recovery of her father, Deen Mohammad Baloch, who disappeared 17 years ago. Despite facing multiple arrests, threats, and harassment, she has remained steadfast in her human rights advocacy. The organization criticized the use of force by the state to suppress dissent and emphasized the need for dialogue rather than violence in responding to political demands.
