India’s wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant will miss the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand due to a right side strain injury. Pant sustained the injury during a practice session when he was hit above the waist by a delivery. Scans revealed a side strain, forcing him out of the series.
Pant, who looked in good form during practice, will now undergo rest and assessment at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. This setback comes after Pant’s recent performances in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he led Delhi to the knockouts with two half-centuries.
Having previously recovered from a foot injury, Pant’s absence leaves a gap in India’s ODI squad. Potential replacements include Dhruv Jurel and Ishan Kishan, both of whom have shown promise in domestic cricket. The ODI series will kick off at the Baroda Cricket Association Stadium in Vadodara, with subsequent matches scheduled in Rajkot and Indore.
