The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has urged for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the suspicious death of a NEET aspirant, insisting that it should be overseen by a Supreme Court or High Court judge. The party expressed dissatisfaction with the progress made by Bihar Police and the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in the case, which remains unresolved after 18 days.
RJD spokesperson Ejaz Ahmad criticized the handling of the investigation, highlighting the lack of breakthroughs and the premature classification of the incident as a suicide by the Bihar Police and the DGP. Ahmad emphasized the need for an impartial probe, given concerns about the effectiveness of the current investigation under the state government.
The family of the deceased student met with Bihar’s Director General of Police and later with Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Samrat Choudhary, but reportedly received no assurances of justice. Allegations of police misconduct and bias were raised by the family, accusing officials of neglecting the case and mistreating them during the inquiry process.
The NEET aspirant was discovered unconscious in her hostel room on January 6 and subsequently passed away on January 11 in a private hospital. Initial assessments ruling out sexual assault were contradicted by post-mortem and forensic reports, which indicated the possibility of sexual assault. Despite the formation of a specialized SIT by the Patna Police, progress in the investigation has been limited, leading to the transfer of the case to the CBI amid growing demands for a transparent and fair inquiry.
