The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), which has been protesting at Jantar Mantar since June 20, faced a setback when the Delhi Police declined permission for their planned march to Parliament on July 20. Delhi DCP Sachin Sharma clarified that the CJP had not sought or obtained approval for the march. He cited Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which limits protests to Jantar Mantar with prior authorization.
The Delhi Police, gearing up for the upcoming Parliament session, has enforced stringent security measures to ensure public safety and the smooth functioning of government facilities. Warning of legal consequences for violating the orders, the DCP urged citizens to comply with the law and avoid unauthorized gatherings. Amid escalating tensions at Jantar Mantar, activist Sonam Wangchuk’s hospitalization has fueled the CJP’s agitation, with founder Abhijit Dipke taking over the hunger strike.
Despite the police’s stance, the CJP has declared its intention to march from Jantar Mantar to Parliament, pressing various demands as their protest enters its second month. Security has been bolstered around key areas, including the Parliament complex, to avert any disturbances. Officials have advised protesters to stay within the designated zone and refrain from confrontations, emphasizing the delicate balance between the right to protest and public order during crucial parliamentary sessions.
