The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) honored Tejashwi Yadav as the party’s National Working President at an official event in the RJD office. Supporters presented him with a silver crown, symbolizing the leadership transition. This move is viewed as a significant generational shift within the RJD and a strategic step to fortify the party for upcoming electoral challenges.
Tejashwi Yadav’s political journey has seen rapid progress in a relatively short span. Transitioning from a sports background, he entered active politics post the 2015 Bihar Assembly elections. Serving as the Deputy Chief Minister in the Mahagathbandhan government, Tejashwi established his distinct political persona. He later became a prominent figure in the RJD, contributing significantly to the party’s success in the 2020 Bihar Assembly polls.
Founded in 1997 by Lalu Prasad Yadav after parting ways with the Janata Dal due to the fodder scam, the RJD has been rooted in the principles of social justice. Focused on empowering backward classes, Dalits, and minorities, the party gained prominence during the Mandal era and has remained influential in Bihar politics. With Tejashwi Yadav’s new role, Lalu Prasad Yadav is anticipated to continue as the party’s ideological guide, while organizational and electoral responsibilities will now lie with Tejashwi.
Analysts foresee that Tejashwi Yadav’s elevation will inject fresh vigor into the RJD, positioning it for a more assertive stance in the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. This strategic move is not only expected to shape the RJD’s future trajectory but also to have significant repercussions on Bihar’s political scenario.
